Time is running out... And Fosco still has a few last things to say about the Bush Administration!
You may have noticed that the central claim in Bush's legacy talking points is that he "kept America safe after 9/11." This popped up again in his farewell address when he smirked that "our nation is safer than it was seven years ago." (Of course, as numerous people have pointed out, this statement makes it easy to forget that Bush bears blame for 9/11.) But let's try to take Bush's claim at face value: are we safer than we were seven years ago?
I think the answer is clearly "yes."*
*unless you are
- a member of the US Military, Military Reserve, or National Guard.
- a postal worker or other mail handler in the Washington DC area.
- a resident of the US Gulf Coast (especially if you are poor or Black).
- vulnerable to arsenic, mercury, or rat poison.
- one of the almost 44 million Americans without health insurance.
- depending on your 401(k) for your future retirement income.
