Dark in the city. Night is a wire.

Dark in the city, night is a wire.
Steam in the subway, earth is afire.
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo, doo doo doo, doo doo doo, doo doo.

Tonight, Fosco and Oz finally decided to graduate themselves from Rock Band to Rock Band 2 (it may have had something to do with Molly Hatchet avoidance). One of the first songs that you have access to in RB2 is Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf." Admittedly, this song (like most 80s pop) is not an obvious choice for a game like Rock Band. Nor is the drum line particularly complicated. However, believe me when I tell you that, for Fosco, it was pure joy. "Hungry Like the Wolf" is one of the first pop songs that Fosco ever loved. And for three minutes, playing fake drums, Fosco felt like he was nine years old again. It was wonderful.

Did you know that "Hungry Like the Wolf" was composed and recorded all in one afternoon? That's called genius, my friends.

Duran Duran songs that are relatively straightforward to do in a karaoke bar:

* Hungry Like A Wolf
* Girls On Film

Duran Duran songs that are *bloody impossible* to do in a karaoke bar:

* Rio (the verses are insane)
* Union of the Snake

The bass on all the Rock Band Duran Duran songs is surprisingly complicated. Oz should give that a try sometime.

Rio is also quite hard (but not the I hate this kind of hard) on drums.

Did you import the Rock Band 1 songs into 2? You can delete individual ones you don't want after you do (Goodbye Outlaws and Metalica!).

Fosco - You should totally get the Andy Taylor autobiography! Great fun you get to see the seamy dark underbelly (with a creamy soft center, of course) of the creative genius that was/is Duran Duran!

BTW, I want you to know that in my head, your blog is called Fosc Olives. Which sound delicious but I can never find them in the store.

Re: Duran Duran karaoke. Fosco doesn't do karaoke anymore after the Tanqueray-fueled "Pretty in Pink" debacle. Although he might enjoy doing "The Reflex," mainly for the "Fle-fle-fle-fle-flex" part.

Re: importing RB into RB2. That requires an xBox Live account and Oz is still in negotiations with his roommate/landlord re: running an ethernet cable thru the wall. Otherwise, the xBox wireless adapter is $100 (which sux). It's a priority, tho.

Re: Andy Taylor bio. Andy Taylor? But he's the ugly one! Yuck. Besides, I think Nick is the genius. Simon is the driving force. John is the hunk. And Roger is, well, the drummer.

Assuming you have wireless access: You can turn on Internet Sharing on your MacBook, run ethernet from it to the Xbox and access Xbox Live. Might be too slow for online gaming, but buying Rock Band stuff would work.

Oh, no doubt Andy was the icky one. But it was still fun to read. I mean, who could've guessed they were doing all those drugs and whoring around????

A powerline LAN adapter works quite well for around forty bucks:

I got mine at Best Buy.
